I truly enjoy helping my clients identify their challenges, develop plans for meaningful change, and set them in motion. This often involves generating awareness and insight into attachment patterns, social dynamics, and adverse childhood experiences. Exploring "why we are the way we are" empowers us with hope to grow beyond our struggles.
We address the symptoms of those struggles — often anxious and depressive symptoms — with coping strategies and resources that reinforce and support our new, healthier growth patterns. I love working with people who are intent on challenging generations of maladaptive family patterns and taking different, healthier paths in their relationships. Because these dynamics arise relationally, individual and couples' therapy focused on enacting change in a relational context is particularly rewarding to me.
Witnessing a client "rewrite the script" of their childhood attachment trauma — whether solo or with a safe and trusted partner — and heal the emotional wounds of their innermost self is my therapeutic calling.
We all have scars. While the physical ones are more obvious, the emotional scars left by traumatic experiences can be far more painful and impactful — and when trauma is left unhealed, the ripple-effect on our lives is undeniable. On an individual level we may blame ourselves, live in the past, and suffer from PTSD, depression, and self-medicating behaviors. At the relational level, we may "act out" old trauma patterns with romantic partners or family members in a subconscious effort to rewrite the past and finally "be okay."
Trauma touches every aspect of our lives, but for all its reach, it is extremely difficult to confront and resolve without help. That's where I come in. Collaborating with individuals and couples, my clients and I develop coping strategies to manage the symptoms and behaviors that stem from the trauma-wound — while also gaining insight into those unhealed wounds to facilitate long-term change, acceptance, and resolution. Facing trauma can be emotionally difficult, so my emphasis on therapeutic warmth, trust, and safety creates a safe harbor of support as clients explore their pasts and reclaim them.
My therapeutic background is in trauma-informed, attachment-based, experiential treatment. As a former attorney — once licensed in Colorado, though I no longer practice — I find value in supplementing this approach with lenses focused on problem-solving, advocacy, and the pervasive impacts of legal, political, and governmental systems on our mental health and relationships. It gives me a deep sense of joy and gratitude to turn those skills to the healing benefit of my clients.
My core approach is trauma-informed, attachment-based, and experiential. Depending on your goals, I integrate from a range of evidence-based approaches:
A relaxed 15 minutes to share what's bringing you in and see if we're a good fit. No commitment.
We get to know your story and goals — individually or as a couple or family — and begin to name the patterns at play.
HIPAA-secure video sessions, Monday–Friday, daytime or evening — from the comfort of home.
